Forget Rose of Tralee, this is The Farmer Wants A Wife

We were away for a couple of days when I received a voice message asking me would I like to judge an upcoming ‘The Farmer wants a Wife’ competition in Northern Ireland on 11th October. My first reaction was that it sounds like really good craic and then I was wondering if I’d be able to manage it with the blog awards event the following evening. Once I found out more, I agreed to do it and I’m really looking forward to it.

It’s all in aid of charity, the Southern Area Hospice Services are looking for farmers to apply to be one of the twelve that are interviewed on the night of 11th October in Armagh, in a ‘Rose of Tralee’ type format. ?They will answer questions and can do a party piece if they wish. ?The judges marks (there will be 3 of us) form 50% of the total scores and the other 50% is derived from the audience. The winner gets a prize and also wins a date from a lady in the audience. Whoever wishes to go on a date with the winner can bid and the highest bid wins. The evening finishes with dancing and music – it sounds like a great laugh. Tullyherron Farm Feeds are supporting the event by being the main sponsor too and it’s already getting plenty of mentions in some of the papers.

If you are a single farmer and up for a good laugh or you know someone who is, contact Anne on 028 30251333 or email macoscara@southernareahospiceservices.org for a registration form ( you agree to raise a minimum of ?100 in sponsorship too). If you would like to be in the audience, tickets for the event are ?10 and can be purchased by ringing the same number. Keep an eye out for the hashtag too on twitter which is #farmerwantsawife.

So all in all, a great idea, a fun night, good craic, money raised for a good cause and for one lucky farmer, he just might be meeting the girl of his dreams. And if you are looking to meet a nice farmer, you’d do much worse than buying a ticket and heading to Armagh on 11th October. See you there 🙂

Wonder if I should forward it to the Scottish farmer (do the Irish & Scottish get along) who stopped emailing me a few years ago? Aside from that, sounds like a fun event for a great cause! Here in the States, I’ve been seeing on the TV a web page set up specially for single farmers/ranchers to meet, because you know it takes a special person to understand the long, strange hours that can go into that occupation. Looking forward to hearing all about it!

http://www.farmersonly.com I don’t know if this is just for the US or if it’s world wide. I remember when my Scottish friend was looking for a wife, he’d posted something in the Hoard’s Dairyman, that’s been 8 yrs or so ago, & you know the abrupt discontinuation of returning my emails may have been him finding a wife, but why he couldn’t have just told me instead of hanging me out to dry, the way he did, we’d been trading email for over 8 yrs, from 1999 thru early 2008, really hurt. OK, still wondering about “clotted cream”, is this what we consider sour cream?
