I first met Marita Kelly at the Ploughing Championships in 2013 but she had interviewed me on Cork radio before that, way before I published my book. I can’t even remember what it was about now – something to do with women and farming I’m sure. Marita is a farmer and radio journalist, farming with her mum in Waterford. This week, Marita has abandoned her own twitter account and is tweeting for the @IrelandsFarmers twitter account until Sunday evening.
The reason I am mentioning this is Marita produced an excellent radio documentary in a six part series all about farming past and present under different topics – interviewing ordinary farmers, IFA leaders, agricultural consultants, even politicians to bring us a snapshot of how we have arrived at our Irish farming today. Okay, it doesn’t solve the current beef crisis but that would be asking a lot! It does provide an interesting look at Irish society and culture too. I hope those of you abroad can listen to it – I know various platforms sometimes block it for those abroad.
