It’s been a bit of a whirlwind the last few days for this Irish farmerette …..

490 books sent out (not counting what my stockists have sold as I’ll add them in closer to Xmas).

Interview on Countrywide last Saturday (7th December 2013) The lovely Louise Denvir came down and interviewed us (yes, the farmer and dog were interviewed too) and she edited it beautifully.

Interview with Ryan Tubridy of 2FM yesterday (11th December 2013) (Just click the links to listen) ?I was really chuffed when he described it as a ‘beautifully produced book’ ?within the interview. As a city boy, he really seemed to enjoy it too.

Not much print coverage but I just haven’t had time to send out sufficient press releases. ?I’m too busy to work on it now plus as next Friday will be the last day for posting, it’s getting a bit late for getting it into print. I’ll work on it in January and hopefully it will be seen as a good gift for Valentine’s Day.

People have been buying the book for themselves, for gifts, as stag party gifts, as hen party gifts. One person today ordered it to be sent to his girlfriend with a lovely message – it made me wonder if a proposal was on the cards!

The virtual Facebook launch is tomorrow – from midday to 9pm GMT. There will be competitions, there will be prizes, there will be sneak peeks. If you have purchased a copy of ‘Would You Marry A Farmer?’ do take a photo of it in a quirky / beautiful / unusual / striking setting for a chance to win a prize. ?Notifications will be on the hour, every hour from midday to 9pm so do pop in now and again.

I hadn?t expected the book to be so informative, for it to contain such an insight into Irish history and its rich traditions, or be quite so entertaining. I loved the illustrations drawn by Joanne Condon too which capture the essence of the book so well.

This book is for single?and?married folk, city or rural dwellers, men and women and would make a great read at any time of the year.

I highly recommend this book as a must-read guide, for anyone interested in rural Irish life, both past and present.

Rich ?of A Trip to Ireland

I picked up the book expecting something in the nature of a humorous gift-book: a light-hearted distraction with a grounding of good sense;? but, I found a much richer story.

It should be said that this is among the best self-published books I?ve seen. It?s well-edited, in both its overall structure and the mechanics of eliminating typos and professional formatting, and the text is illustrated by cute line drawings throughout (check out Sixsmith?s blog to see some of these). If only more self-published books were of this caliber.

It?s a lucid discussion of farm life in the 21st century, and a perfect book for both visitors to Ireland who wish to better understand Irish life, urban dwellers seeking to learn more about their farmer forefathers, and anyone curious about the social history of agricultural life in Ireland.

This is a love story guys. Not the kind that is going to make you well up with buckets of tears, more the kind of story you hope to see turned into a movie some day. It has that ?James Herriot ? All Creatures Great and small? feel to it. Honest, open, and what is so important these days ? ?authentic.

Would you Marry a Farmer by Lorna Sixsmith is a?no-frills?representation of farm, family and married life today in Ireland and?I love it!

There you have it – I am beyond delighted with the fact that so many people are enjoying the read, not to mention that so many are purchasing it. ? This is one very happy farmerette!
